Swash ships most weeks. Everything that landed, newest first, and all of it is live in the editor today.

Ransom note, Cursor and Pixel assemble
Ransom note — a widget that spells your text in cut-out letters, no two alike: photo scraps or paper cut-outs, rect, scissor-cut or torn. Letters assemble one by one, swap and wobble; Re-roll picks new ones
Cursor — a pointer that travels through stops and moves, hovers, clicks, double-clicks, drags or selects at each one. Sets: Apple, Pixel, Flat, Figma with a name tag, Touch and 3D with frosted glass. Point a stop at a layer and the cursor turns into a hand over it
Pixel assemble — a reveal that builds a layer from flying pixels or scatters it apart: text, images, shapes and video. Five presets, from Pixel dust to LED board
Glyph field — a new background of tiny marks in coloured bands: squares, diamonds, rings and crosses that drift, flicker or breathe
Glyph Dither got new character sets, pixelation, contrast, brightness and density, a dark-to-light colour gradient and a transparent background
Scramble is back: letters change in place, so the line no longer jumps. Pick the characters it flips through, and let letters appear only when their turn comes. New presets: Decode appear, Symbols decode and Decode words for the word cycler
The sound library grew from 76 to 201 sounds in 14 sections, and a recording can now be cropped so it never starts before its layer
Solid 3D bars, Möbius strips and four new shapes
Ring, Twin rings, Helix and Cylinder can be solid now: an opaque bar with its own face, inner side and edge colours, thickness and padding
Twist the bar around itself — one half-turn on a ring makes a Möbius strip — and let it roll for a ribbon that keeps turning
Text on the inner side and on the edges of the bar, and their own colours for the second of Twin rings
Four new shapes: Twisted bar with four coloured faces, Stack with a slab per line turning in steps, Torus and Funnel
New gallery layouts, Globe, Map and backgrounds
Sixteen new gallery layouts: Deck, Carousel, Spin, Flicker, Sphere, Gravity, Frames, Field, Proximity, Card Tunnel, Iso Focus, Spiral, Carousel 3D, Stories, Image Trail and Path
Globe and Map — a dotted world that spins or lies flat, with pulsing markers, meridians and reveal, twinkle and size animations
Six new backgrounds: Northern Lights, City Grid, Pistons, Realigning, Paint Flow and Layout grid, each with its own colours
Sound
Animators have a voice now: a letter popping in, a word sliding out — each move can make its own sound, exactly in time
A library of 76 hand-picked sounds with sections, search and preview on hover; every preset comes with a sound that fits it
Choose where the sound lands — at the start, across the whole move or at the end — and how often it repeats per letter or copy
Audio tracks: add your own music or keep the sound of a video, trim it, loop it, fade it in and out, and let it duck under the effects
Twelve built-in soundtracks to start from
Cascade: volume and pitch can rise or fall from the first letter to the last
Pixel sort and Kinetic blocks
Pixel sort — a glitch effect that sorts pixels along rows, with four animations: progress, threshold, sweep and flicker
Kinetic blocks — a background pattern of moving rectangles: width, length and cell motion, with waves staggered across columns
The add-layer buttons moved to the top bar, next to undo and redo
Effects now follow the loop length of the project, so loops close without a jump
Background patterns and cut-outs
Background — a new section with animated patterns as a layer: Mesh gradient, Moiré, Lava lamp, Voronoi, Truchet, Waves, Flow field, Topography, Particles and more
Stepped gradient — a gradient cut into bands; the bands and the gradient move on their own
Voronoi got rounded cells, gaps, cells of different sizes and organic edges
Remove background — one click on any image, and the cut-out lands on top of the original (Pro)
Widgets, Gallery and a new look
Widgets — ready-made animated blocks: Counter, Terminal, Pills, Ticker, Chat, Progress, Reel, Icon, Confetti and DVD
Counter rolls like an odometer, flips or spins like a slot machine; Terminal types commands in a Mac, Windows or Linux window; Pills fall and bounce with real physics
Reel — a list that scrolls through a focus line, in four styles, with variable-font axes on the focused word
Gallery — drop in a few images and they cycle on their own, in five layouts: 3D, Stack, Wheel, Wipe and Zoom
A new studio look: floating panels, a section rail on the left and a calmer dashboard
Frosted glass, light rays and more effects
Background blur — frosted glass behind any layer: what is under it blurs, the layer stays sharp
Light rays — beams built from the bright parts of the frame itself, with a point-source mode
Tone layers — the frame split into four tonal bands, each with its own block grid
Cyanotype, Kaleidoscope and Posterize
Adjust — exposure, contrast, highlights, shadows, whites, blacks, temperature, tint, saturation, vibrance and more, as a layer effect
CRT gets mask types, a refresh bar and flicker; Refraction gets mosaic patterns and taller frost
Rotation pivot and template pages
Rotation now has a pivot: turn a word around a corner or any point, not only around its centre
Groups keep their own anchor, so rotation and scale of a group behave like a single object
Template pages on the site — every community template has its own page with a preview, fonts and a one-click open in the editor
Random is now one of the unit orders for animators, next to forward, backward and centre
Figma plugin
Copy for Swash is live in Figma Community: select layers, copy, paste into a Swash project
Text comes over with its font, weight, width, italics, line breaks, case and underline
Shapes, images, gradients, strokes, shadows and blend modes travel too — as editable layers, not screenshots
Groups stay groups, nested ones included; the plugin tells you upfront what it cannot carry
Try it without an account
The editor opens straight from the site — no sign-in to start
Your work is kept in the browser; sign in later and it moves into your account as a project
Templates and typefaces on the site open in the editor with the same one click
Typewriter can shift the text into the layout as it types, instead of revealing it in place
Decoration lines and plates follow each letter, so they move with animated text
Groups
Cmd+G groups whatever is selected; Group is also in the right-click menu
Animate a group by element: presets run across its members with an order and a stagger between them
Blur and mask work on the whole group or on each member separately
Group members get their own rows and bars on the timeline, so their timing is editable in place
Blend modes and Mosaic
Eighteen blend modes per layer — the Figma set: multiply, screen, overlay, colour dodge, difference and the rest
Mosaic — twelve procedural tiles that cover the frame by tone
Block swap moves whole cells off the grid; Dither gets ink and paper colours in mono
Animator menu regrouped by what an animator does, and it hides what does not apply to the object
Click an animator bar on the timeline to open just that animator in the panel
Depth, outline and objects inside 3D
Depth animator — move letters towards and away from the camera
Outline animator — animate stroke colour and opacity
Put other objects inside a 3D shape: a word can sit inside the sphere the text is wrapped on
Compound presets are now layers, one property each — edit any of them separately
Add animator by type, not only from a preset card
Over a hundred new fonts and a typeface showcase
More than a hundred new fonts and styles in the catalogue, italics included
Every typeface has a page on the site: try the variable axes, type your own line, open it in the editor
Font picker shows previews, with search and category chips
Drawn paths get tangent handles, corner rounding and a closing ring on the first point
Text on a path can draw on: the path reveals itself with the letters riding it
A font per span and instant font change
Select part of a line and give it its own font — one text object, several typefaces
Non-variable fonts let you pick the style; italics for twelve more families
Change Font gains an instant swap next to Shape and Dissolve
Gradient background lives in the palette; shape fills accept transparency
Blend in and Blend out on animators — a soft start instead of a jump, and a guaranteed return by the end
Copy a deformation onto another object
Typewriter block, Roll, Bar reveal, Wiggle
Typewriter block — a block cursor typing the line, with a matching delete on the way out
Roll and Roll out — letters roll through a slot, up or down
Bar reveal and Bar hide — a plate uncovers the text by line, word or letter, in Block or Lines flavours
Wiggle — smooth periodic drift that loops without a seam
Color shift — a plain colour transition for the whole text
Random stagger order for any progress-driven animator
Timeline
A timeline panel at the bottom of the editor; it absorbed the layers list, so every object is one row
Every animator is a bar: drag it, stretch it, snap it to the playhead, neighbours, seconds and the ends of the clip
Objects get their own time range — set when something appears and disappears
Box-select bars across the track, zoom the track, scrub the playhead
Right-click an object on the track for the same menu as on the canvas
Font morph
Morph text from one font into another — letters flow into their new shapes instead of cutting
Two rebuild types: Shape rebuilds the outlines, Dissolve melts one font into the other
Gooey styling with softness and plumpness, so the change reads as liquid, not as a crossfade
Set the variable axes of the target font, not just the font itself
Ideas board
Suggest what to build next and back the ideas you want
Ten votes per account, twenty on Pro — closing an idea gives them back
Follow an idea to hear when its status changes
Shape, deform and shaders
Fit text into a shape — draw a contour or point at an object, and the letters fill it
New deformers: taper, arc, flag, barrel, melt and shear
Apply shaders to selected layers instead of the whole scene
New shaders to play with
Beta
Swash is in beta
Everything below is now open to everyone — no invite needed
Pro adds 4K export, 60 fps and unlimited projects, with a 7-day free trial
The free plan keeps working without a time limit: exports carry a small Swash mark
Scene effects
Risograph — misregistered ink layers with paper grain
Halftone — print-style dot screen
Glitch, chromatic aberration, bloom and film grain
Effects stack: order them and tune each one separately
Images, shapes and layers
Add images and shapes alongside text — rectangle, capsule, circle, triangle, diamond, pentagon, hexagon, star
Layers panel to reorder, rename and hide anything on the canvas
Select several objects at once by dragging a box across the canvas
Blend modes, masks and per-object opacity
Upload your own fonts and use them in any project
3D layouts and text on a path
Arrange text in 3D: ring, twin rings, sphere, cylinder, helix, or a tunnel running away from the camera
Run text along a curve — wave, arc, serpent, or a path you draw yourself
Repeater to multiply an object into a rhythm, with per-copy offsets
Deform the whole line — bend, skew, wave it as one shape
Export
MP4, GIF and PNG
Pick resolution and frame rate; the panel tells you upfront if your browser cannot encode a format
Export runs in the browser — nothing is uploaded to render
Animation presets
A library of ready-made animations grouped by what they do: enter, exit, motion, scale, rotate, colour, fade
Preview an animation before applying it
Variable-font axes animate too — weight, width, slant
Word cycler: swap words on a schedule inside a single line
Every preset is a starting point — tune it, then save your own default
